Better impact for publications

The impact of refereed articles by MTT's researchers improved in 2001. The impact value calculated was 126, an increase of 8 units on the previous year. Research results were published in high valued journals, i.e. in journals with high impact factors.

The calculation analysed the number of refereed articles by MTT researchers, their distribution in different journals and the overall impact of publication output. For purposes of the analysis, retrievals were made from MTT's JUKURI database for the years under review. In the retrieval, the class 'refereed articles' was selected, and the material was then printed out sorted according to the journals that published the articles.

Impact factors for the journals were taken from the publication Journal Citation Reports. The impact factor is the number of citations from the journal during the two previous years divided by the number of articles published during the same period. The impact value for 2001 was calculated using the most recent impact factors, i.e. those for 2000, by adding together the journal factors weighted by the number of articles. If an article was published in a supplement of the journal, it was assigned the impact factor of the main journal.

Result for the year: 116 articles and ten dissertations

MTT's researchers published 116 refereed articles and ten dissertations in 2001. The number has been calculated on the basis of the entries in the JUKURI database on February 22, 2002.

In 1995-2001, refereed articles were published in more than 250 journals, ten of which published nine or more articles. The distribution of the articles among different journals was high, since more than half of the journals published one article by MTT researchers during the period under review.

In 1995-2001, MTT's researchers published an average of 117 refereed articles annually. An additional average of eight dissertations were completed per year.
